Welcome to the Safe Sets website
We would like to create a welcoming and helpful atmosphere for dancers of all skill levels and backgrounds in order to gain experience on the floor while listening to West Kerry style musicians
Safe Sets is an attempt to bring more people in to the set dancing community. There are many benefits to set dancing :
- Strength and tone - Dance engages multiple muscle groups - especially the core, legs, and glutes.
- Weight management - It is a full-body workout that burns calories without feeling like exercise.
- You will meet many new people - the social aspect of dancing brings great fun and joy to everyone's lives
- You will learn a great deal of dances - there are many dances, no shortage of information to gather, every day is a school day !
- Mental health benefits - Dancing releases endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine - your brain’s "feel good" chemicals.
- Increases confidence - Moving your body rhythmically in front of others builds self-esteem and body awareness.
- Fights cognitive decline - Studies show that social dancing can reduce dementia risk by improving brain plasticity and coordination.
- Joy & playfulness - It brings fun and spontaneity back into daily life, something for which adults often forget to make time.
- Creativity - Dancing encourages improvisation and self-expression.
- Improves memory and focus: Learning choreography strengthens neural connections and supports cognitive flexibility
One of the ways to create a welcoming atmosphere is to stick to the same dances so that learners can concentrate on 'the basics'. Here are the list of sets we typically have at our events :

We also have an episode of a series called "Rinceoirí" :
